Previously, IC recorders were mainly used to record human voices such as conversations or meetings, but the SX series is our flagship IC recorder and we started planning to expand its use to recording musical performances which requires high sound quality. Sony’s PCM-D1 and PCM-D50 can record in linear PCM mode, but in response to users’ demands for a more easily available linear PCM recorder, we decided to make the IC recorder compatible with linear PCM. Compared with the upper-end PCM-D1 and D50, the SX is much smaller in size, making it easier to carry round and record high quality sound anywhere anytime. Not only is it good for recording musical performances, but the sound is so clear that you can distinguish people’s voices, making it very useful for business users too. Linear PCM recorder users are already seen as professionals and people who are particularly meticulous about sound, but this IC recorder can record in MP3 compressed format as well, so it offers a wide range of uses to ordinary users too. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it is the culmination of Sony’s IC recorders. |
