The Walkman player is not recognized by the computer.

The following solution is applied when you experience the following symptoms:

  • The Walkman player is not displayed on Windows Explorer.
  • The Walkman player is not displayed on Mac Finder.
  • The Walkman is not displayed on the app in use.

 

If the computer does not recognize the Walkman, try the following solutions.

  1. Check operating environment
  2. Check USB connection
  3. Check USB Connection Mode settings 
  4. Reset (reboot) the Walkman.       
  5. Restart the Walkman and PC
  6. Reinstall the device driver
  7. The Walkman is not recognized by apps

 

  1. Check operating environment
     Check that the Walkman is compatible with the OS.
     See Help Guide for compatible OSes by model.
     
  2. Check USB connection
       Check that the USB cable is not dirty. Fine dust or dirt particles may prevent recognition. If the Walkman’s WM-PORT or USB cable terminal is dirty, clean it with a soft cloth.
       Check that the PC’s USB ports recognize the Walkman. Connect the Walkman to all of the PC’s USB ports and check that they recognize the Walkman.
       If you are using a USB hub, remove it and try connecting the Walkman to the PC’s USB ports directly to check that they recognize the Walkman.
     
  3. Check USB Connection Mode settings 
     This solution is for models that have USB Connection Mode Settings
     The Walkman may not be automatically recognized depending on the PC connected. In this situation, by using the USB Connection Mode Settings to put the Walkman in connected standby mode before connection, your connection is more certainly ensured.

     USB Connection Mode setting method:
    1. Select Settings in the Home menu.
    2. Select Common Settings.
    3. Select USB Connection Mode
    4. Select Yes.

      NOTE: The USB connected standby screen will be displayed on the Walkman. Test recognition by connecting the Walkman to the PC.
       
  4. Reset (reboot) the Walkman.
      Refer to the following for the resetting procedure.
       Reset (rebooting) the Walkman
     
  5. Restart the Walkman and PC 
     Restart the Walkman and PC and check that the PC recognizes the Walkman.
     
  6. Reinstall the device driver
     If the Walkman’s device driver is not properly installed to the PC, the Walkman will not be recognized.
      Check that the device driver is displayed on the PC.

    For Mac, check the iOS device driver:
       1. Click About This Mac on the Apple menu.
       2. Open System Report. The Walkman’s drive will be displayed under USB.
    NOTE: If it is not recognized properly, reload the device driver. 
     
  7. The Walkman is not recognized by apps
    1. Reinstall the app
    2. Uninstall the app from the PC.
    3. Restart the PC.
    4. Reinstall the app.

NOTE: If the Walkman is displayed on the app when you connect it to the PC, it is being recognized properly.
