This program updates the DSLR-A330 camera firmware to Version 1.10.
Firmware Update Additional Features / Improvements
- When the Metering mode is set to the Center weighted or Spot metering modes,
the exposure will be locked when the focus is confirmed. (When shooting in AF mode)
IMPORTANT: This firmware update is only for a DSLR-A330 camera that has Ver.1.00 of the firmware installed.
Determine whether or not this firmware update is needed:
Only DSLR-A330 cameras that meet the criteria for the current firmware version should proceed with this firmware update. Follow these steps to check your firmware version.
Note: If the firmware version is already Ver.1.10, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
- Turn ON the camera power switch.
- Press the MENU Button to display the menu.
- Select Tab 3 of the Setup Menu using the horizontal buttons of the control button.
- Select Version by pressing the down button of the control button.
- Press the center of the control button.
- The firmware version will be displayed on the LCD monitor.
- Press the center of the control button to close the version display
IMPORTANT NOTES: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
WARNING:
- Do not use this firmware to update any other models of digital cameras.
- This Camera firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process, downloading and updating this firmware, acknowledgement of awareness and understanding that this update cannot reverse this installation.
Note:
- It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.

Other items
Please be sure to prepare the following items as it will be used while updating.
Power source for the camera
- When performing the firmware update, use the fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FH50 or the AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately).
Note: An update can be performed only when the battery level is three remaining battery icons or more. We recommend that you use a sufficient battery or the ACPW10AM AC Adaptor (sold separately).
USB Cable
- USB cable supplied with camera
Note:
- The cable will be necessary if your computer does not have a card slot which is suitable for the recording medium.
- Operations are not guaranteed if you use a commercially available USB cable.
Recording Medium
Please prepare one of the following recording medium.
- Memory Stick PRO Duo or Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo
- SD Memory Card or SDHC Memory Card
Note: Recording medium is required to be formatted with the camera beforehand. Please backup the data in the recording medium before format.

Details
Download and extraction procedures
- Double-click the downloaded file (DSCA330V110.exe) to decompress it.
* Depending on your Operating System, the file may be automatically extracted when downloading.
- The following file (DSCA330.APP) should be created after decompression:
* The extension (*.APP) may not be displayed depending on the computer.
* As this file is a firmware for the camera, there is no need to open the file.
Prepare the recording medium
Prepare the recording medium (Memory Stick PRO Duo / Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo / SD Memory Card / SDHC Memory Card) to use for the update. Format the recording medium on the camera.
Note:
- If the recording medium is not formatted, the firmware update may not start.
- Please note that all data including even protected images will be erased by formatting and cannot be restored.
Format the recording medium
- Turn OFF the camera power, then insert the prepared recording medium into the camera. Ensure that the memory card switch is on the side of the inserted media.
- Turn ON the power switch.
- Press the MENU button to display the menu, select
Playback menu-1 using the Control button.
- Select Format in
Playback menu-1 with the Control button then press the Center button of the Control button.
Copy the update files to the recording medium
Copy the update file (DSCA330.APP) to the formatted recording medium (Memory Stick Pro Duo / SD Memory Card) with one of the procedures below depending on your environment.
If your computer has a card slot which is suitable for the recording medium
- Insert the recording medium formatted with the camera in the card slot of your computer.
- Copy the update files DSCA330.APP to the root folder of the recording medium.
If your computer does not have a card slot which is suitable for the recording medium
Connect the camera to the computer with the USB cable, and copy the update file onto the recording medium.
Before copying the file, check the USB connection.
- Insert the battery into the camera (or connect the AC adapter AC-PW10AM)
- Insert a formatted recording medium in the camera.- If the recording medium has not been formatted, please format the medium.
- Select the type of memory card you want to use using the memory card switch.
- Slide the camera POWER switch to the ON position.
- Press the MENU button and display
3 of the Setup Menu, using the control button.
- Check that “USB connection” is set to “Mass Storage”.
- If “Mass Storage” has not been set, please change the setting to “Mass Storage”
- Connect the camera and the computer with the USB cable.
- Select the decompressed update file (DSCA330.APP) and copy the file from the computer onto the root folder of the recording medium within the camera.
- When the copying the file is complete, disconnect the USB cable.
Update the firmware
Note:
- When performing the firmware update, use fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FH50 or the AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately).
- Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the firmware update, otherwise the camera may be permanently damaged.
- Turn OFF the camera power, then insert the prepared recording medium into the camera. Ensure that the memory card switch is on the side of the inserted media.
- Press the MENU button, and turn ON the power while still pressing the MENU button.
- When the following confirmation window appears, use the control button to select OK, then press the center of the control button to confirm the selection.
Note: If the confirmation window does not appear on the LCD monitor, it may be due to the following.
* If it is not formatted, the firmware update may not start.
* Please make sure that the update file (DSCA330.APP) is in the root folder of the recording medium.
- The updating procedure will start, and the following screen will be displayed.
- Do not turn off the camera until the updating procedure is complete.
(Update will take approx. 30secs)
- When the firmware update is complete, the following screen will be displayed. As the camera will automatically restart after approx. 10 secs, please wait for the camera to restart.
- After the camera has restarted, turn OFF the camera, and remove the recording medium. Next, check that the camera firmware version has been correctly updated.
Check the camera firmware version after updating
Check the firmware version by following the instructions below.
If the firmware version is Ver.1.10 the update has been performed correctly.
- Turn ON the camera power.
- Press the MENU button to display the menu.
- Select Tab 3 of the Setup Menu using the horizontal buttons of the control button.
- Select Version by pressing the down button of the control button.
- Press the center of the control button.
- The firmware version will be displayed on the LCD monitor.
Confirm that the version is Ver.1.10.
- Press the center of the control button to close the version display.
Note:
- If updating procedure was not completed successfully or the camera cannot turn on, please consult your local authorized Sony service facility.
- After updating the camera, format the recording medium or delete the update file DSCA330.APP from the recording medium.
