This utility updates BDP-S190/S390 firmware to version M11.R.0502 and provides the following benefits:
- Disable SSL for Poodle issue
Recommended Operating System for the computer to create an upgrade disc:
- Macintosh® OS X v10.10
- Macintosh® OS X v10.9
- Macintosh® OS X v10.8
- Macintosh® OS X v10.7
- Macintosh® OS X v10.6
- Macintosh® OS X v10.5
Check the Current Firmware Version
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Blu-ray Disc player is connected
- Power on the Blu-ray Disc player
- If the player starts to play a disc, press the STOP button and wait until the xross media bar™ menu is displayed on the television before proceeding
- Use the arrow keys on the remote control to select Setup – System Settings, and then press the ENTER button
- Use the arrow keys to select Quick Start Mode and make sure that the Quick Start Mode is set to Off
If the Quick Start Mode is set to On, change the setting to OffOtherwise, the firmware update may not succeed - Use the arrow keys to select System Information, and then press the ENTER button
- The firmware version currently installed on the Blu-ray Disc player will be listed on the television screen
If the last four digits of the version number are 0502 or higher, it is not necessary to install this firmware upgrade
How To Get the Firmware upgrade
There are two ways to perform the BDP-S190/S390 Firmware update:
Network upgrade:
- The Network upgrade operation is straightforward, so it is highly recommended that you use the Network upgrade method
- You will need to connect the Blu-ray Disc player to your Internet source using an Ethernet cable
- Please see the Network upgrade Instructions section, for more information
Create an upgrade Disc:
- If you cannot connect the Blu-ray Disc player to your Internet source, please use the disc upgrade method
- Please see the Download the Firmware and Create an upgrade Disc section, for more information
The Network Update operation is straightforward, so it is highly recommended that you use the Network Update method to update the BDP-S190/S390 firmware
Important Notes
- WARNING!! Please follow the update instructions carefullyFailure to follow the instructions may interrupt the update process and may cause the Blu-ray Disc player to be unresponsive or to require repair
- WARNING!! Do not power off the Blu-ray Disc player or disconnect it from the AC power outletLoss of power during the installation of the firmware update may cause the Blu-ray Disc player to be unresponsive or to require repair
- In order to use this update method it is necessary to have the player correctly connected to an active Internet connection
- In order to perform the firmware upgrade, it is necessary to have the system correctly connected to a compatible television
Note: The firmware upgrade process usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on system configuration and network connection
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the BD player is connected
- Connect the LAN(100) terminal on the Blu-ray Disc player to your Internet source using an Ethernet cable
- Power on the Blu-ray Disc player
- If there is a disc in the Blu-ray Disc player, please remove the disc
- At the xrossmediabar (XMB) , use the arrow keys on the remote control to select Setup - Network Update and then press the ENTER button
- Perform version update? message is displayed
- Select OK and then press the ENTER button
- The first portion of the update process starts and the progress screen is displayed on the television
- During the update the message */9 is displayed on the television
Note: The * changes to 0 through 9, indicating the update progress - The Blu-ray Disc player will restart itself when it is complete and the second portion of the update will start
- The software update starts and the progress screen is displayed on the television
- During the update the message */9 is displayed on the television
Note: The * changes to 0 through 9, indicating the update progress - The firmware update is complete when the Blu-ray Disc player automatically powers off
WARNING!! Do not operate or power off the player until the update is completeDoing so may cause the Blu-ray Disc player to be unresponsive or to require repair - Power on the Blu-ray Disc player
- Check the current firmware version to confirm that the upgrade has successfully installed
Note: If the last four digits of the version number are 0502, the firmware upgrade was successful

Network Firmware upgrade FAQ
- When running network upgrade, the television displays the message, "Connection status cannot be confirmed" and you cannot perform the firmware upgrade
There may be a problem with the network connectionVerify that the network connection and settings are correct
1Check the Ethernet cable to make sure it is securely connected to the LAN(100) terminal on the unit and to the Internet source
2Check the Blu-ray Disc player network settings and confirm that the player has its own IP address
Note: If you use a proxy server, enter the IP address of the proxy server you use, instead of the proxy host name, in the Proxy Server input field
3Follow the Network upgrade Instructions again
- The power was shut down during the upgrade process
Power on the the Blu-ray Disc player, and then follow the Network upgrade Instructions again
- The firmware update process is still not finished after running for more than 30 minutes

Follow the steps in the Download the Firmware and Create an Update Disc section to create an update disc

Download the Firmware and Create an upgrade Disc
If you cannot connect the BDP-S190/S390 to your Internet source, please use the disc update method
Important Notes:
- If you have not done so already, please check the current firmware version to determine if this firmware update is needed for your Blu-ray Disc player
- WARNING!! Please follow the update instructions carefullyFailure to follow the instructions may interrupt the update process and may cause the Blu-ray Disc player to be unresponsive or to require repair
- WARNING!! Do not power off the Blu-ray Disc player or disconnect it from the AC power outletLoss of power during the installation of the firmware update may cause the Blu-ray Disc player to be unresponsive or to require repair
- Use a brand new CD-R disc to burn the firmware updateThe player may not be able to correctly read a dirty disc or a disc with scratches
Note: A CD-R disc is strongly recommendedDo not use a CD-RW disc - Recommended operating system for the computer that will download the firmware update:
Macintosh® OS version 10.10, Macintosh® OS version 10.9, Macintosh® OS version 10.8, version 10.7, version 10.6 and version 10.5 - A drive with CD disc burning capability and a new blank CD-R disc are required to create the update disc
- After you create the disc, please see the Disc Update Instructions section below, for more information
- In order to perform the firmware update, it is necessary to have the player correctly connected to a compatible television
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process
- Download the UPDATA_M11R0502M.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference)
- Double-click the UPDATA_M11R0502M.zip file to extract the firmware files
- The extracted file will be named UPDATA_M11R0502.ISO
aRight-click the UPDATA_M11R0502.ISO file and in the menu select Get Info
bOn the UPDATA_M11R0502.ISO information screen verify that the size listed is 100 MB (105,781,248 bytes)
cClose the Get Info screen - Create a firmware update disc

The instructions below are for how to install the firmware upgrade using a disc

WARNING!! Do not power off the player or disconnect it from the AC power outletDoing so may damage the player to the point of requiring repair

Note: The firmware update process takes a minimum of 15 minutes
- Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Blu-ray Disc player is connected
- Power on the Blu-ray Disc player
- Place the update disc in the player, and close the disc tray
- After the disc is loaded, the message, Perform version update? is displayed on the television
- Use the remote control to select OK, and then press the ENTER button
- The first portion of the update process starts and the progress screen is displayed on the television
- During the update, the message */9 is displayed on the television
Note: The * changes to 0 through 9, indicating the update progress - The Blu-ray Disc player will restart itself when it is complete and the second portion of the update will start
- The software update starts and the progress screen is displayed on the television
- During the update, the message */9 is displayed on the television

- Power on the Blu-ray Disc player
- Checkthe current firmware version to confirm that the update has successfully installed
Note: If the last four digits of the version number are 0502, the firmware update was successful
If the Update Disc does not eject
If the update disc does not eject even though the update has finished, please follow the steps below
- Power off the Blu-ray Disc player, and disconnect the AC power cord
- Reconnect the AC power cord while simultaneously holding down the Open/Close button on the player
Note: Pressing the Open/Close button on the remote control does not workIt is necessary to press Open/Close button on the Blu-ray Disc player - Keep pressing the Open/Close button until the disc tray opens
- Remove the disc
Disc Firmware upgrade FAQ
- The power was shut down during the upgrade process
Power on the Blu-ray Disc playerThe update should restart automatically
- The UPDATA_M11R0502M.ZIP update file I downloaded from the update web site cannot be extracted
The download may have failedDelete the downloaded file and follow the steps in the Download the Firmware and Create an upgrade Disc section to create a new update
- The firmware upgrade process is still not finished after running for more than 30 minutes
